Project Description

Client:   Martel Construction
Location:   Canyon Village, Yellowstone National Park
Year Completed:  Scheduled fall 2016
Type:   Large Commercial
Architect: Barker Rinker Seacat

A much needed updating of the lodging facilities in the Canyon Village area of Yellowstone National Park. The project added more than 500 rooms to replace a dilapidated lodge built in the 1950’s.

The Challenges

When the federal government is involved, you know it’s going to be big.  In 2014 Simkins Hallin’s truss department provided the truss package for the first phase of the Canyon Village Lodging Rehabilitation project.  The three buildings required over 1,000 trusses, many of which were specialty attic or passageway designs.

The trusses were built and staged at the contractor’s request; essentially being delivered just before they were lifted into place.  The delivery drivers, delivering 12 semi loads in all, made special accommodations to comply with road work, road conditions, and National Park commercial delivery schedules.
